Dear El Segundo Unified School Community,
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself as the new superintendent of the El Segundo Unified School District.
I started my career as a special education teacher, serving schools across the South Bay. Throughout my career, I have always believed that every child in my care should be treated as my own.
Schools are an extension of family. Each student who walks through our doors must feel valued so that they feel safe enough to make mistakes, grow, and find their love of learning. Personal connections elevate a student's academic achievement beyond what can be accomplished by any curriculum or instructional program. This is what drives my dedication to inclusive and innovative schools, and ESUSD embodies my belief in caring, challenging, and supporting every student.
A year ago, during a visit to Acacia Park with my daughter, I was struck by the Education Foundation’s tagline: "Every student wins." This simple, yet profound, statement resonates with my core belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. The history of El Segundo, where the community has invested so much in its outstanding schools, fuels my excitement for the unique opportunities this city and its school district can offer its students.
My leadership style is defined by collaboration. I look forward to listening and learning over the coming months, as I believe that our collective efforts as a community are the key to achieving meaningful milestones for our students.
I invite you to connect with me at jjohnson@esusd.org to share your thoughts, ideas, and aspirations for our school district. As the year begins, I will be meeting with families and more of our staff to better understand our hopes for the future.
Thank you for the warm welcome to ESUSD, and I look forward to serving as the superintendent of this wonderful educational community!
