California Healthy Kids Survey
The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is the largest statewide survey of resiliency, protective factors, risk behaviors, and school climate in the nation. Across California, the CHKS has led to a better understanding of the relationship between students’ health behaviors and academic performance, and is frequently cited by state policymakers and the media as a critical component of school improvement efforts to help guide the development of more effective health, prevention, and youth development programs.
The El Segundo Unified School District administers the California Healthy Kids Survey annually to gather key benchmark data for our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) to improve teaching and learning for all students. We use these data in conjunction with other survey data and measures.
Students in 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grades, along with Arena students in grades 9-12, will participate in this online survey. The survey is anonymous and confidential; no one will ever connect answers with a specific student.
School sites will communicate to parents of students about the survey. Active consent (opt in) is required for grade 5, and passive consent (opt out) is required for student participation in grades 7-12.
