El Segundo Middle School Celebrates Completion of Administration Building Modernization with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

The El Segundo Unified School District (ESUSD) held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 19 at El Segundo Middle School (ESMS) to mark the completion of the school’s administration building modernization project.

The project was one of several projects that broke ground in summer 2020, that are funded by Measure ES. The upgrades in Phase 1 at El Segundo Middle School included a complete remodel of the administration office. The building now features a new safe and welcoming front entrance system, added office space for staff, and the expansion of the building to incorporate a teacher work room. ESMS also received new decorative front perimeter fencing and replacement of chain link fencing in various locations.

Next up at ESMS will be the development of two new Science Labs, renovations for the band classroom, and modernization to Bulldog Hall, the school’s multi-purpose auditorium. Designs for an all-new gymnasium are currently under review with the Division of State Architecture and construction is scheduled to break ground in winter 2021. The new gymnasium building will include a full-size basketball court, two practice basketball courts, boys and girls locker rooms, flexible classroom space, a stage, restrooms, storage area, and additional parking.

“This first ribbon-cutting ceremony under Measure ES is a significant milestone celebrating the physical manifestation of the District’s Long-Range Facilities Master Plan,” said Dr. Melissa Moore, ESUSD superintendent during the ceremony. “I extend a sincere thank you to our community for coming together for the successful passage of Measure ES. YOU have made this all possible! Thank you to ESUSD employees, board members, community leaders, and most importantly to the voters of the City of El Segundo, for your support of our students at the El Segundo Unified School District!”

This ribbon cutting ceremony marks the first celebration of a completed project under Measure ES – a $92 million bond measure which passed in November 2018 with the approval of 63.32 percent of El Segundo voters.
