COVID 19 - Employee Info

August 12, 2021

Dear ESUSD Staff,

On Wednesday, Governor Newsom announced a new Public Health Order mandating vaccination of school staff, reaffirming California's commitment to safe, full, in person learning for all K-12 schools. To read the full health order, click here.

Vaccination Verification
In compliance with the health order, all vaccinated employees will need to submit proof of vaccination to the  Office of Human Resources. This may be submitted as:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (issued by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control & Prevention or WHO Yellow Card) which includes name of person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided and date last dose administered); or

  • A photo of a Vaccination Record Card as a separate document; or

  • A photo of the Vaccination Record Card stored on a phone or electronic device; or

  • Documentation of COVID-19 vaccination from a health care provider; or

  • Digital record that includes a QR code that when scanned by a SMART Health Card reader displays to the reader client name, date of birth, vaccine dates and vaccine type; or

  • Documentation of vaccination from other contracted employers who follow these vaccination records guidelines and standards.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through the next steps. It is important to note that employees whose vaccination status is unknown or for whom documentation is not provided must be considered unvaccinated and will be required to undergo diagnostic screening testing weekly.  Employees may confirm your vaccination status and upload your document using this Google Form. This information will only be available to the Office of Human Resources and ESUSD Health Office staff.

Testing Requirements
As outlined in the health order, asymptomatic unvaccinated, incompletely vaccinated, or employees who do not have verification of vaccination are required to undergo weekly diagnostic screening testing. More information regarding ESUSD’s testing plan will be provided in the coming weeks.

All public and private schools must be in full compliance with the order by October 15, 2021. We continue to be in an ever-evolving situation and I appreciate your cooperation and flexibility as we move forward to safely reopen schools full-time for our students.

Sincerely,
Melissa Moore, Ed.D.

SB95 - Supplemental Paid Sick Leave for COVID Related Leaves
California recently passed SB 95, which requires most employers in California, including El Segundo Unified School District, to provide up to 80 hours of Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (SPSL) to eligible employees for COVID related leaves. Part time staff are entitled to the number of hours they would usually work in a two-week period.

There are seven qualifying reasons for an employee to take SPSL. SPSL is available to employees who cannot work or telework due to any of the following reasons:

  1. The employee is subject to a quarantine or isolation period related to COVID-19 as defined by an order or guidelines of the State Department of Public Health, the CDC, or a local health officer with jurisdiction over the workplace,

  2. The employee has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19,

  3. The employee is attending an appointment to receive a vaccine for protection against contracting COVID-19,

  4. The employee is experiencing symptoms related to a COVID-19 vaccine that prevent the employee from being able to work or telework,

  5. The employee is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and seeking a medical diagnosis,

  6. The employee is caring for a family member who is subject to a quarantine or isolation order or guidelines, or who has been advised to self-quarantine by a health care provider, or

  7. The employee is caring for a child whose school or place of care is closed or otherwise unavailable for reasons related to COVID-19.

The supplemental leave is available retroactively to January 1, 2021 and will expire on September 30, 2021. So, if you were absent for a qualifying reason this year and you used sick leave or vacation leave, you may claim the SPSL to have your sick or vacation time reinstated. If this applies to you, please complete the SPSL Request Form and submit it to the Office of Human Resources.
