El Segundo High School has received two honors from the Advanced Placement® (AP®) Program for its academic programs, while 16 students were individually recognized for their academic performance.
ESHS received a Gold distinction from the College Board on the 2023 AP® School Honor Roll. This honor recognizes schools whose AP programs deliver results for students while broadening access. Schools earn the recognition based on criteria reflecting a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
The ESHS Class of 2023 had 74% of seniors take at least one AP exam during high school, with 59% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam. About 15% of seniors took five or more AP exams.
In all, ESHS offers 20 AP courses from all academic content areas.
The 2023 AP School Honor Roll also recognized ESHS with the AP Access Award, in recognition of the school providing all students the chance to participate in AP, including students of underrepresented populations. Schools earn this honor when the percentage of underrepresented and/or low-income students accessing the school’s AP program is the same as, or greater than, the percentage in the school’s graduating class.
Sixteen students earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs for their hard work and academic performance throughout high school. These programs honor students from rural areas, along with Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino students who had a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher, scored in the top 10% of PSAT (Preliminary SAT) scores in California, or earned an AP exam score of 3 or higher (on a scale of 1 to 5).
