Dear Families,
We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragedy that occurred yesterday at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.
It is important to listen to your children as it’s very possible that they will learn about the shooting. Please know that, if your child has questions or concerns, our counselors are ready to assist. We encourage students to speak with a counselor or another trusted adult if they need any help processing the news. You may consider accessing the following resource tools:
Resources for Schools and Families
• Talking to Children about the Shooting (The National Child Traumatic Stress Network)
• Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers (National Association of School Psychologists)
• Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers (Resources in multiple languages)
Additionally, we want to assure you that the safety of our students is our top priority. We are constantly reviewing our security measures to ensure that we are doing everything we can to protect our students and staff. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to complete the recent school safety survey that each principal included in their newsletter. We also urge everyone to speak up if they see or hear anything that could represent a potential threat to school safety.
Sincerely,
Melissa Moore, Ed.D.
Superintendent
El Segundo Unified School District
