Today, on Rosa Parks’ birthday, we honor the American Civil Rights hero who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery city bus. Parks is an inspiration to us all, proving that a simple act can change society for the better.
Today is National Freedom Day. On this day in 1865, President Abraham Lincoln signed the 13th Amendment, which eradicated slavery in the United States.
The El Segundo Unified School District observes this day as a reminder of how far we’ve come as a country, as well as the work that has yet to be done to achieve true equality and freedom.
We are proud to recognize Black History Month in the El Segundo Unified School District. The legendary African American artists, musicians, scientists, and innovators throughout history continue to inspire us.
We encourage everyone to learn more about these notable figures during February and beyond.
