Center Street School and Richmond Street School have both been recognized as 2023 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished Launch Schools. They are two of just 492 schools nationwide to receive the honor.
The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. To be eligible for the designation, a school must have more than 75 percent of its student body participating in the program and must have offered at least one PLTW Launch module at each grade level during the 2021-22 school year.
Both Richmond Street and Center Street proudly offer STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) programs, committed to empowering students to harness their curiosity and follow their passions within a project-based learning environment. The engineering portion of this curriculum is supported by PLTW’s Launch module.
“We are incredibly proud of the work taking place at both Richmond Street and Center Street in this area,” said Dr. Melissa Moore, ESUSD Superintendent. “It’s fascinating to watch these young students finding and pursuing their passions within the structure of our elementary classrooms. Our teachers are doing incredible work, guiding our students through the curriculum in ways that ignite their curiosity and engaging them in critical and creative thinking and teamwork to find success and build their confidence in STEAM subjects.”
PLTW is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of students and teachers across the United States. The organization’s goal is to empower students to develop in-demand, transportable knowledge and skills through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.
