Dear ESUSD Employees, Families and Communities,
It is hard to believe there are only four weeks remaining in the school year. I have two important updates to share with all stakeholders.
Certificated Employee Appreciation and Classified Employee Acknowledgement
At the April 25th, Board of Education meeting, the Board passed a resolution to formally acknowledge certificated staff appreciation and a second resolution to shine a spotlight on the hard work of classified employees. In ESUSD, our certificated staff includes 167 teachers, 1 librarian, 2 reading specialists, and 6 counselors. In addition, the District has 5 speech and language pathologists, 4 school psychologists, and 14 other certificated faculty. All of these individuals make a profound impact on the lives of our students each day by teaching or providing essential support services.
ESUSD also employs 93 full-time and 70 part-time classified staff members, as well as 43 walk-on coaches. Classified employees are responsible for the day-to-day operation of school business. Our walk-on coaches play an integral role in supporting our student athletes. Schools could not operate successfully without the contributions of classified employees. We are fortunate to have a great team of classified employees making such a positive impact on the lives of our students as well!
I commend the outstanding efforts of the ESUSD faculty, classified staff and administration for collectively achieving significant accomplishments district-wide. I would also like to express my gratitude to all parents, business partners and community members who generously contributed towards honoring all employees this month with heartfelt notes, hospitality and special tokens of appreciation.
Ali Rabiei Appointed Assistant Principal Center Street School
On Tuesday, the Board of Education took action to unanimously appoint Mr. Ali Rabiei to the position of Assistant Principal at Center Street School for the 23-24 school year. After three rounds of interviews that included administrators, teachers, classified staff members, and parents, Ali Rabiei rose to the top as the perfect candidate to join the Center Street community. I am confident that Mr. Rabiei will be a tremendous asset to Principal Rose Ahrens and will also be well-received by students, parents and staff alike.
Mr. Rabiei has been with the district since 2011 and currently serves as Assistant Principal at ESHS and his adjunct duty includes district-wide safety. He has served in a variety of capacities including Director of Maintenance and Operations, assistant principal at ESMS, and acting principal at both ESHS and ESMS. He earned his master’s degree in sociology from California State University-Dominguez Hills and bachelor’s degrees in political science and sociology from University of California, Irvine. He is known for his tremendous follow through, prompt response time, commitment to student safety, and affinity for regulations.
In Closing
The last month of the school year is busy with many events. Our PTA Council and school PTAs will be installing their new slate of officers. Thank you to all parents who have served or have stepped up to serve in this volunteer capacity. Our music educators and students have been working diligently to prepare for Spring concerts and encourage you to take time to attend. Lastly, Center and Richmond Street Schools are hosting open house on May 18th. Enjoy!
Take care and be well,
Melissa Moore, Ed.D.
