Congratulations to Kris McNeela

El Segundo High School Teacher Kris McNeela has been honored with the 2024 Yale Educator Award for English.

The annual award recognizes educators from around the world who support and inspire their students to achieve at high levels. This year, 75 teachers and 20 school counselors were selected from among 320 nominees, representing top educators from 39 states and 24 countries.

The award nominees were chosen by students enrolled in Yale’s Class of 2028, who were invited to nominate educators who made a significant impact on their education and lives. A committee of Yale admissions officers reviewed each nomination before selecting the recipients. McNeela was nominated by former student Julian Raymond.

“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Kris McNeela for receiving this prestigious award,” said Dr. Jason Johnson, Superintendent. “Our teachers have the potential to profoundly impact students’ lives, with effects that last long after graduation. The hard work, dedication, and care of teachers like Ms. McNeela help lead our students to success, including at esteemed institutions like Yale.”

As part of the Yale Educator Award, McNeela received an engraved desk set and a congratulatory letter from Yale University.

The Yale Admissions Office credits the high quality of its student body to educators like these, who shape their students long before they reach Yale, and extends its thanks to all educators for their commitment to inspiring and supporting students.
