The following message from ESUSD Superintendent Melissa Moore was emailed to ESUSD families and employees on Feb. 9, 2022.
Dear ESUSD Parents and Community,
The ESUSD motto, Transforming Education for a Changing World has never been truer. These are still unprecedented times for public education, yet ESUSD continues to emerge as a leader within Los Angeles County and the State. El Segundo Unified School District was recognized in the Top 20 on the Niche 2022 Best School Districts in California list. With roughly 1000 school districts in California, ESUSD is in the top 2% in the state and earned an A+ from Niche.com. ESUSD would not be able to achieve this honor without your support of the District and the El Segundo Education Foundation (Ed!).
The Ed! Winter Pledge Drive is coming to an end on February 15, and we are hoping that every parent participates and supports our schools. This year Ed! pledged a $1.8 million dollar grant to help fill the financial shortcomings of state funding and empower ESUSD to provide more academic programs, counselors, and librarians at every school. Your support is essential for the following reasons:
- The school district does not receive adequate funding from the state of California to properly educate all students comparable to other states in the nation.
- The amount of Federal funds ESUSD received is considerably less as a percentage of the budget than other districts, given the makeup of our student body population.
- Funding has helped reduce the effects of the fluctuating state-level funding shortfalls.
- Let’s stand together with El Segundo Education Foundation to ensure we can bridge the funding gap from the State and continue to offer that first-class education.
Now through Monday, February 15, donations of $100 or more will be quadrupled! Thanks to the generous donations from Continental Development Corporation, Matt Crabbs and Bill Ruane. Together, as a community, we can help achieve the common goal of a superior education for the students of the El Segundo Unified School District. Your Ed! donations benefit every single student in ESUSD. This truly means Every Student Wins!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have given. In addition, I would like to reach out to those of you who have yet to give. Please know your Ed! donations touch every single student in ESUSD. Please visit the Ed! Foundation's website fÂÂÂÂÂor more information and donate today. www.ESEdF.org/donate
I am proud to donate to the Ed! Foundation as I see firsthand our gifts in action through our students each day. Please join me making a difference in the lives of our students.
With gratitude that we are in this together,
Melissa Moore, Ed.D.
