richmond street distinguished school 2023

Richmond Street School has received the California Distinguished School Award for 2023.

The school has been recognized for its positive 2022 California School Dashboard data, which reflects significant progress in closing achievement gaps and increasing student performance in the areas of CAASPP assessments, chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, and socioeconomic data. Only 356 out of the 5,872 elementary schools in California—or about 6 percent—received the award this year.

The award is based on the growth of the whole child, including students being present, making good behavioral choices, and thriving academically.

“A huge congratulations goes out to the teachers, staff, students, and families of Richmond Street School, who have achieved something very few schools in our state do each year,” said Dr. Melissa Moore, Superintendent of the El Segundo Unified School District. “This is a reflection of the day-to-day efforts of everyone involved in the school community to ensure students have the resources they need to thrive. We are incredibly proud of the results we have seen at Richmond Street.”

As an honoree, the school is invited to send representatives to the California School Recognition Program Awards Ceremony in February.

To select California Distinguished Schools, the state Department of Education uses multiple measures to identify eligible schools based on their performance on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard. To learn more, visit https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/cm/index.asp
