Fifth graders in Mrs. Leonard's class have been reading @kaaauthor’s “Home of the Brave,” and were excited to hear about her visit! When they learned that there wasn't enough room for 5th graders at the assembly, they took matters into their own hands! The students wrote a persuasive letter to Ms. Applegate and delivered it to her personally upon her arrival at school. Their initiative and persuasive writing skills impressed everyone, and it was a great example of students using their voice to make a difference. The best part is... it worked! Ms. Applegate paid a special visit to their classroom. Who was more excited, the teachers or the students? Debatable... Photographed with Ms. Applegate are 5th grade teachers Mrs. Leonard and Dr. Felix!

In collaboration with Pages Bookstore, we were thrilled to host New York Times bestselling authors Katherine Applegate and Gennifer Choldenko for a special assembly! Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students heard inspiring stories of how these two award-winning authors found their path to success. The assembly included exciting writing tips for young authors, fun and practical dog training advice, and valuable information on supporting dog shelters—inspired by their newly published Dogtown series that they co-authored! It was an engaging and memorable experience for all who attended!

Preschool students are starting to settle in! They are comfortable with their teachers and in their learning environment. Teachers model small play groups to support students who need social skills to engage with peers. Students form their own peer play groups and engage in pretend play to celebrate a special birthday. Sometimes students chose to explore all on their own. All of these are important skills to practice and develop through the school year. Our friends are bonding and enjoying their time at school!
